2027 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon
Secure Your Entry for Africa’s first potential World Major
The 2027 Sanlam Cape Town Marathon – The Next Abbott World Marathon Major
In 2027, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon is poised to make history — set to officially become the newest Abbott World Marathon Majors event and introduce an extraordinary eighth star to the global marathon stage.
Following a successful 2024 evaluation, the 2026 race will complete its final review — and all 2026 finishers will receive a provisional 8th Star, a powerful symbol of being part of running history in the making. Once Cape Town’s status is formally confirmed, that star will become fully recognised — forever marking those runners as pioneers of a new Major.
This is more than a marathon.
It’s a defining moment.
Run beneath the dramatic silhouette of Table Mountain. Follow the Atlantic coastline as waves crash beside you. Feel the rhythm of African drums echo through the streets. From the vibrant neighbourhoods to the electric finish precinct, every kilometre pulses with culture, colour and heart.
Cape Town is not simply joining the Majors – it’s redefining them.
Be there when the eighth star is born!!
